How To Grow Radish!
My radish are due over the weekend I will harvest my first crop ready for the weekend BBQ salads.
I sowed them on the 27th March and they are already ready to harvest. I was actually quite shocked on how quick they take to grow 4 to 6 weeks.
Don't leave your radish to late to harvest or they will taste woody and peppery which is inedible.
They love rich soil and lots of sun light! But this does not mean you can plant them in shaded and bad soil they will still grow but you will get a better crop in better conditions.
Radishes are very small so you can sow them closely. Make sure your soil is not lumpy and very fine with compost or manure. Use your stick or hand spade and drag a little dam in a straight line 1 inch apart per row and seeds 6 inches apart. The seeds are very small so pinch a few with the tip of your fingers and sprinkle lightly and pinch the soil over the seeds. Oh and lightly water as you don't want to wash the seeds away. Yes sowing the seeds to close together can also cause your crop to be inedible and also glut. Don't worry if you don't get the hang of sowing seeds for your first time you will get the hang of it.
Because radish are the fastest and most easiest crop to grow they don't get much pest. The only pest are snails, slugs and the flea beetle.
These both damage the foliage of the crop. This is important that fast action is taken a weak foliage a weak crop. You can buy pesticide to rid these pest.
Photos will come!
So sow radish it's easy fast and cheap! What you waiting for give it a go and let me know!
